‘Long road ahead to recovery’: Family says Hamilton mother, son critically injured in hit and run

The family of a son and mother who were rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a hit-and-run in Hamilton over the weekend say that the pair has a lengthy recovery ahead.
Hamilton Police confirm with CityNews that on Sunday, a family of three was walking on Ottawa Street around 4 p.m when a vehicle struck the 29-year-old father, 30-year-old mother and their 10-year-old son.
“The vehicle travelled southbound on Ottawa Street North when it became airborne. The driver then lost control of the vehicles,” said Jackie Penman, Corporate Communicator for Hamilton Police Services.

“Once it returned to the roadway, it mounted the curb, striking the family.”
The mother, identified as Nicole, and their son Maddox, were both rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
While the father was treated on scene for minor injuries, his emotional distress following the tragic collision has been painful, according to his cousin Eric Reid.
“Sean’s screams could be heard by many in a nearby building, but nothing could take from the horror that remained,” wrote Reid on a GoFundMe page recently created in support of the family.
“Sean has not been himself,” Reid tells CityNews. “Nicole was in an induced coma as of yesterday and had quite a few surgeries. Maddox is in better condition but is still suffering from his injuries.”

Child now in stable condition as mother fights for her life
According to the latest information from the police, Nicole remains in serious condition, and the child is stable.
“I was lucky enough to have the three of them up at our family cottage a couple of weeks ago, where I picked them up and passed on the very street this all happened,” Reid said.
While the passenger of the suspect vehicle, described as a black 2008 Chevy Equinox, remained on the scene, the driver fled before police arrived.
Hamilton investigators confirm that they continue to interview witnesses and review video surveillance asking anyone with information to contact them.
