GTA hospital group, Trillium Health Partners, mourning the loss of 3 physicians

Trillium Health Partners is mourning the loss of three physicians who have passed away over the last week.

The GTA hospital group, which operates Mississauga Hospital, Credit Valley Hospital and Queensway Health Centre, released a statement on Thursday in an effort to quell rumours that had been circulating online regarding the manner of their deaths.

“The rumour circulating on social media is simply not true. Their passings were not related to the COVID-19 vaccine,” reads the statement.

“Dr. Jakub Sawicki, Dr. Stephen McKenzie, and Dr. Lorne Segall, were trusted colleagues who were committed to caring for their patients and community.”

Dr. Segall, an otolaryngologist at Credit Valley Hospital, passed away on July 17 at 49-years-old after long battle with lung cancer. He is being remembered for the “the overwhelming love he gave to his family.”

A neurologist at Mississauga Hospital for almost four decades, Dr. Mackenzie died a day later on July 19. He was a one of the founding members of the neurology department and also lended his expertise to teaching medical students at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Sawicki joined the Surgical Assisting Team at Trillium in 2014 before going onto conduct clinical research in pain medicine. He also was the Medical Director of pain medicine clinics within the region.

Flags have been lowered to half-mast at the locations where these doctors worked to honour them.
