Two-vehicle crash at Bathurst and Steeles leaves 1 dead, 2 critically injured

A violent crash near Steeles and Bathurst has claimed the life of one person. Two others were rushed to hospital with serious injuries. It's not clear what caused the collision.

One person is dead and two others are fighting for their life in hospital after a horrific crash at Bathurst Street and Steeles Avenue on Tuesday morning.

The two-vehicle collision happened at the northeast corner of the intersection just after 5:30 a.m.

Police said the driver of a Toyota Highlander, heading east on Steeles, was waiting to make a left turn onto northbound Bathurst when the driver of a Nissan Altima, which was speeding east on Steeles, lost control at Bathurst and struck the back of the Highlander.

The passenger in the Altima was pronounced dead and the driver is in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Highlander was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The Toronto police accident reconstruction team is investigating the crash.

Police are asking anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the crash or witnesses to contact them.

The intersection of Bathurst and Steeles remains closed in all directions. Motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
