Ontarians can now apply for, renew accessible parking permits online

Ontarians who need an accessible parking permit can now conveniently apply online without having to go to a ServiceOntario location in person.

The province announced Wednesday that those requiring the permit could apply for, renew, and replace the document if it was lost or stolen on the Ontario.ca website.

Organizations and not-for-profits assisting people with accessibility needs can also utilize the online service.

“Having the option to apply for and renew Accessible Parking Permits online will save people precious time and let them focus on what matters most in their life instead of filling out needless paperwork,” Public and Business Service Delivery Minister Kaleed Rasheed in a release.

In the past, people applying for the permit had to do so in person or by mail, which would often take weeks.

The latest update builds on other Ontario documents that can be applied for or renewed online, including driver’s licenses, health cards, and Ontario Photo Cards.

For those who would still like to go in person, appointments can be made via ServiceOntario.

Currently, the province said there are approximately 770,000 accessible parking permits in use. Last year, ServiceOntario issued close to 255,000 permits.
