Surveillance footage appears to show the moments a man was violently carjacked at gunpoint from his home garage in Brampton over the weekend.
Peel Regional Police confirmed with CityNews that an armed carjacking incident occurred on Sunday around 7 p.m. at a residence located near Ebenezer Road and Highway 50.
Video submitted to CityNews shows a man driving a white SUV pulling up to a residence. A black car can be seen in the distance.
Once the man drives the car into his garage, the driver of the black vehicle is seen speeding up to the house and stopping out front.
That’s when one person, whose face is covered with what appears to be a mask, gets out and rushes to the garage where the suspect and the white SUV owner are seen engaging in a struggle in the driveway.
The video shows the armed suspect hitting the man, who backs away and throws his keys to the ground, motioning to the suspect, who then picks something up. Neighbours can be seen in the distance, noticing the commotion and purportedly calling for help.
The SUV owner is standing in his driveway on his cell phone with the carjacking suspect out of sight and in the garage. The victim is then seen entering his home.
The video shows the suspect backing out of the garage in the white SUV just under a minute later. A getaway driver in the aforementioned black car and the carjacking suspect then drive off.
Const. Philip Yake tells CityNews the victim suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
It’s unclear if the stolen vehicle has been recovered.
