Twitter testing ‘edit’ button; Canadian users to be among first to get access

Twitter has announced they are testing a long awaited 'edit' button. Geoff Rohoman with the latest.

Twitter is finally rolling out its long-awaited edit function, and Canadians will be among the first users able to try it out, but it comes at a literal cost.

The company says it is testing what it calls its “edit tweet” function internally with its team. It will then be rolled out with a select group of people, including Twitter Blue subscribers, the company’s paid subscription service.

As part of the test, Canadian Twitter Blue subscribers may start seeing the feature later this month.

Tweets will be able to be edited a few times in the 30 minutes after they’ve been posted.

Edited Tweets will appear with an icon, timestamp and label, so it’s clear to readers that the original Tweet has been modified,” says a spokesperson for the company.

“Tapping the label will take viewers to Edit History, which includes past versions of the Tweet for context.”

The company says the feature is meant to reduce the frustration that comes with having to delete a tweet or leave a typo on display because there is no current way to alter tweets.

The testing will also be made available in the other Twitter Blue markets, the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand.
