Arrest warrant issued in shooting death of Gidid Mohamed

Police have identified a suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a 27-year-old man last month.

Officers were called to a social club near the intersection of Lawrence Avenue and Weston Road in the early morning hours of August 9. When they arrived they found two men who had been shot. A 37-year-old was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries while the second man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified as Gidid Mohamed.

Police have issued an arrest warrant for 31-year-old Yahya Daud Diblawe of Peterborough, wanted for second degree murder and attempted murder in the shooting.

Diblawe is described as five-foot-eleven, 150 pounds with a thin build, brown eyes and medium length dark hair that may be pulled back in a bun.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

Two days after Mohamed was killed, a separate shooting during a funeral ceremony at the Toronto Muslim Cemetery in Richmond Hill left one man dead and another seriously injured.

Police believe that shooting was targeted but there is no indication at this time that Diblawe was involved.
