Young driver lucky to be alive after transport truck runs red light in Durham

Durham regional police say a young driver is lucky to be alive after video surveillance captured a shocking moment that saw a transport truck run a red light and narrowly miss hitting the car.
The force shared the video on Instagram of a reported traffic incident just before 6 a.m. on September 8, 2022, in the Toronto Street and Elgin Park Drive area in Uxbridge.

Authorities say a young driver was attempting to make a left turn on a green light when the transport truck ran the red light, almost striking the vehicle.
“The driver’s quick thinking prevented a devastating collision and reminds us [of] the importance of being a defensive driver,” the caption reads.
Police say a 29-year-old truck driver was charged with careless driving and failing to stop at a red light.
