How will Ontario’s minimum wage stack up after Saturday’s hike?

Minimum wage workers in Ontario received a long-awaited pay hike on Saturday, October 1.

That’s when the province increased the wage by 50 cents to $15.50.

Students under 18 also got a 50-cent boost, up to $14.60.

Despite many feeling that’s still not enough to keep up with the ever-increasing cost of living, it does rank Ontario fairly high among Canada’s other provinces and territories.

Ontario now has the fourth highest minimum wage in Canada.

Nunavut leads the pack with a minimum wage of $16.00, followed by Yukon at $15.70 and British Columbia at $15.65.

Saskatchewan is planning to raise its minimum wage to $15 by October 2024.
