York police have made multiple arrests after a Markham woman was carjacked at gunpoint in her driveway with her young child in the vehicle’s back seat.
Authorities were called for reports of an armed carjacking around 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 13, at a home in the area of Elgin Street and Henderson Avenue.
It’s alleged that a woman arrived at a home in a black Mercedes G-class SUV with her young child in the back seat as another child played in the driveway. A silver vehicle quickly pulled up behind the woman’s car.
Police say an armed man got out of the vehicle and approached her while yelling and demanding the victim get out of the car.
The woman’s husband witnessed the incident and rushed outside as the woman was able to grab the child out of the vehicle. The male suspect allegedly stole the Mercedes SUV and fled the scene with a second suspect driving the silver vehicle.
No physical injuries were reported to the police.
With the assistance of investigators in Toronto, police in York Region located and arrested three suspects involved in the carjacking. A fourth suspect remains wanted.
Police identified one man as 21-year-old Zion Mosiah-Lewis of Toronto, who faces several charges, including robbery with a firearm and two counts of breaching probation.
Two other males, aged 16 and 17, were also charged with robbery with a firearm. These teenagers were not identified as part of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
