19-year-old male, other man arrested after armed carjacking in Scarborough

Toronto police have arrested two people, including a 19-year-old man, allegedly involved in a violent armed carjacking in Scarborough on Tuesday night.

Officers were first called to the Kingston Road and Lawrence Avenue East area shortly before 10:30 p.m. for reports of an armed robbery.

Police say the victim was parking his vehicle on a street in the area when he was confronted by two armed suspects who demanded his watch and keys.

One fired a shot at his feet to scare him into handing over the car keys. No injuries were reported.

The suspects fled — one-armed man driving the stolen car and another in a blue Mercedes — but the carjacking victim was able to track the vehicle using an app on his phone.

Const. Laura Brabant says the stolen vehicle was located in the Weston Road and Highway 401 area.

Two men fled on foot, and one suspect was taken into custody. A second suspect fled into some bushes and was arrested shortly later. The victim’s vehicle was recovered, police confirmed.

Investigators identified one man as 33-year-old Brandon Ryan Daniels of Pickering. He’s facing several charges, including robbery with a firearm and the discharge of a firearm with intent.

A second man was identified as 19-year-old Hamza Sajid of Brampton, who is facing a similar slew of offences. Both men appeared in court on Wednesday.
