WestJet says system-wide outage resolved, delays and cancellations continue

WestJet says it is continuing to deal with cancellations and delays following a system-wide outage that affected its network on Saturday.

The Canadian airline did not go into details about what they termed a “technology outage” but tells CityNews it affected the ability to relay information to passengers, resulting in more than 200 flight cancellations.

WestJet said Sunday morning the outage had been resolved, and all systems are “online and stable,” but they anticipate further delays and cancellations as they work to recover from the system-wide outage.

“Rebuilding a schedule takes some time to get new crews, new landing windows, and get aircraft where they were originally scheduled to go,” they tweeted in response to a question from a customer about rebooking a cancelled flight.

WestJet is asking customers to check their app or WestJet.com for the most up-to-date flight information, noting that they are experiencing “very high volumes” at their call centre and other support channels.

“Additionally, accommodation options for all impacted guests will be communicated through email as soon as possible,” the airline said.
