The Peel police fraud bureau arrested and charged two former children’s aid employees following an investigation into an alleged “purchase and reimbursement scheme” that cost the organization a quarter of a million dollars.

Authorities confirmed on Monday that two workers were terminated after being suspected of defrauding Peel’s Children’s Aid Society (CAS).

In July 2022, officers said the children’s aid society contacted the police force to conduct a criminal investigation alleging suspicious matters involving the two employees.

Peel police said they were suspected of working together in the fraud scheme, and on Nov. 7, investigators arrested and charged the former Director of Finance, Property and Information Technology of Peel CAS, Marino Cader of Ancaster and the former Peel CAS Property Maintenance Coordinator, Andre Paul, of Acton, Ont.

Cader is facing multiple offences, including seven counts of fraud exceeding $5,000 and five counts of uttering forged documents. Paul faces three counts of uttering forged documents.

Cader and Paul will appear in a Brampton court on Jan. 2, 2023.
