Amber Alert issued for 2-year-old girl cancelled after she was found safe: police

Nick Westoll takes a closer look at how and when Amber Alerts are issued in Ontario.

An Amber Alert issued by Ontario Provincial Police for a two-year-old girl Wednesday evening has been cancelled.

According to a Toronto Police Service post, the girl was allegedly abducted from a property by her father at around 4 p.m.

OPP officers issued an Amber Alert just after 7:40 p.m., but less than half an hour later it was cancelled.

Investigators said the girl was found safe, but it’s unclear where she was found and if she was found as a result of the Amber Alert.

Toronto police officers said the girl was being assessed by paramedics.

When asked if the man is facing charges, a Toronto police spokesperson said the investigation is still ongoing.

Meanwhile, authorities urged people once again to not call 911 to complain about the issuance of the Amber Alert.

“It is not an appropriate venue for complaints. These unnecessary calls divert resources from all emergency calls for help,” a Toronto police tweet said.

This is a developing story that will be updated.
