Advisories ended after fog lingers for most of the day in Toronto and GTA

Dense fog lingered across Toronto and the GTA on Thursday, posing hazardous driving conditions and affecting operations at airports.

Environment Canada issued a fog advisory for the region on Wednesday, saying the “persistent fog with visibility near zero” would continue into the next morning.

While the warning was lifted in other regions by the afternoon, the fog lingered over some parts of Toronto and the advisory remained in effect for the city.

Environment Canada re-issued fog advisories for Mississauga and Brampton Thursday afternoon, calling for the fog to persist into the early evening.

Toronto’s Pearson International Airport said it reduced the flow of arriving flights to maintain safe operations amid the foggy conditions.

“The airport continues to operate, but inbound flights may be delayed,” Pearson said in a tweet.

Billy Bishop Airport in downtown Toronto also warned travellers that fog and poor visibility could cause flight delays.

All advisories were ended just before 10 p.m.
