A 22-year-old man is under arrest and facing a number of charges including attempted murder following a shooting in Mississauga last month.
Peel police say they were called to the area of Tenth Line and Derry Road following reports of shots fired just after 2 a.m. on Dec. 14, 2022.
When officers arrived they learned there was an altercation involving several individuals in which multiple gun shots were fired. Police say no one was struck by any bullets but one person suffered minor injuries as a result of the fight.
A warrant was issued for Elijah Simpson-Sweeney in connection with the shooting.
Police in North Bay, Ont., with the assistance of provincial police, took Simpson-Sweeney into custody on Jan. 4, 2023. He has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault, one count of chokes, suffocates or stangles, and one count of criminal harassment.
Police say at the time of his arrest, Simpson-Sweeney was out on bail for a separate attempted murder and firearms offences.
In April 2021, an arrest warrant was issued for Simpson-Sweeney by Toronto police for second degree murder and attempted murder in the Sept. 2020 shooting death of Anthony Martin in North York. He is also wanted by another police service in Ontario for flight from police.
