Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to at least 25 crashes on Thursday morning, as GTA drivers continue to deal with slushy road conditions following the winter storm.
Although the major routes have been plowed and the snowfall warning has ended for the region, it is still a dicey commute for drivers.
One of the crashes involved at least six vehicles on the the eastbound Highway 401 ramp to Dixie Road in Mississauga. The lanes are closed for the collision cleanup. Minor injuries were reported.
“The roads are still covered with snow and slush. The areas between the lanes [have] significant snow from the plows. Roads are wet, it is still freezing,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said.
He said there have been 300 crashes in the past 24 hours.

Schmidt said if you need to drive today, to make sure to “give yourself extra distance behind the vehicle in front of you, give yourself extra time, stay in control, don’t panic, no aggressive steering and no aggressive braking, please be careful out there.”
The most significant winter storm of the year hit Toronto and the GTA on Wednesday resulting in a number of closures and cancellations across the city, including hundreds of flights at Pearson airport. Most school boards across the region have also decided to cancel buses for the day.
Environment Canada said based on preliminary information, 14 centimetres of snow fell at Pearson Airport and up to 22 centimetres across the GTA.
