Chemical reaction causes fire in New Toronto Street and Eighth Street area

Toronto fire services were dispatched to a level three hazmat call fire due to a chemical reaction in the duct work of a commercial building in the New Toronto Street and Eighth Street area.

Toronto fire tells CityNews the occupants of the building work with chemicals in manufacturing, and mixing the chemicals caused toxic fumes and potentially explosive which warranted the hazmat response.

Toronto fire controlled the situation as the fire is now out and there were no reported injuries.

The building was evacuated and there are no reports of impacts to nearby structures.

Roads were closed in the area during the investigation, but have since been reopened.
