A man accused of violently sexually assaulting multiple women in 2013 and 2014 pleaded guilty and was sentenced to eight years in prison, police in York Region said on Tuesday.

The first incident happened on Sept. 27, 2013, when a woman exited a transit bus around midnight near South Service Road and Crestview Avenue in Mississauga. It’s alleged that a man was brandishing a weapon, grabbed the woman and pulled her into a darkened area, where he sexually assaulted her.

Over a year later, on Nov. 13, 2014, York Regional Police received a similar report that a woman got off a transit bus at approximately 12:30 a.m. in the Yonge Street and Canyon Hill Avenue area in Richmond Hill.

Officers say she was approached by a man armed with a knife who demanded money from her. He then pulled her into a field and sexually assaulted her.

In late 2021, investigators gathered a forensic link from an unrelated incident, ultimately leading police to positively identify the suspect.

On March 11, 2022, police arrested and charged 32-year-old Jaehyun “David” Cho of Toronto.

On Monday, Cho pleaded guilty to sexual assault with a weapon, sexual assault causing bodily harm and disguise with intent. York Regional Police said Cho was sentenced to eight years in prison.
