The Kansas City Chiefs won their second Super Bowl in four years after a second half comeback to beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in Super Bowl LVII.
After scoring 14 first half points, the Chiefs outscored the Eagles 24-11 in the second half on their way to lifting the Lombardi trophy in Glendale, Arizona.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts put on a show with the game coming down to a late field goal following a controversial penalty.
Eagles cornerback James Bradbury tugged at the jersey of Chief receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster with less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter. The penalty enabled Kansas City to run down most of the clock, setting up a Harrison Butker field goal with eight seconds remaining.
Bradbury later admitted he thought he did commit a penalty on the play.
Mahomes became the first player since Kurt Warner in 1999 to win the NFL MVP as well as Super Bowl MVP award, becoming just the seventh player in NFL history to earn both. The award was also Mahomes’ second career Super Bowl MVP.

“I thought guys just embraced the moment,” Mahomes said about rallying from a 10-point halftime deficit. “In that first half, we were playing and doing some good stuff, but I felt like the guys were getting consumed by everything around us.”
The star under centre finished with a 131.8 passer rating for 182 passing yards, 44 rushing yards and threw for three touchdowns.
After being down by double digits at halftime the Chiefs became just the second team in Super Bowl history to overcome a deficit that large to win.
Hurts finished the game with 70 rushing yards – setting the Super Bowl single-game record for rushing yards in the game by a quarterback – as well as three rushing touchdowns on top of 304 passing yards and a passing touchdown.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spent 14 season as coach of the Eagles, he beat his former team to earn his second ring with Mahomes and the Chiefs.
“We wanted to get this so bad for him,” Travis Kelce said. “His legacy in Philly lives on forever. … There’s a lot of pride in knowing that he’s had success in two different organizations, but this was the better one.”
