Man in 50s dead after being attacked, stabbed in downtown Toronto

By Michael Ranger and Lucas Casaletto

Police are investigating after a man was fatally stabbed while being attacked by a group of people in downtown Toronto.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Queen and Sherbourne streets around 12:50 a.m. on Monday.

Paramedics say a man in his 50s was located outside a shelter with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

He was identified as 55-year-old Jeffrey Munro of Toronto.

Police said Munro was attacked and stabbed by a group who fled the area eastbound on Queen Street East from Sherbourne Street.

Investigators tell CityNews they do not believe it was a random attack and say there was some sort of conflict prior to the incident.

Sherbourne was closed in both directions from Queen to Shuter Street as police were investigating, but the roads have since reopened.
