Toronto’s summer-like stretch continues with potentially record-breaking heat

As Jaime Pulfer says, a stretch of nice weather is on the way for the GTA and could bring hotter than normal temperatures to the area.

It’s time to break out the shades, shorts, and sunscreen with temperatures in the GTA set to soar into the mid-20s over the next couple of days.

The summer-like conditions started earlier this week and will only ramp up with potentially record-setting temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday

“We are really heating things up today, with lots of sunshine for most areas,” says CityNews meteorologist Jill Taylor.

The CityNews guaranteed high for Wednesday is 26 C — the Toronto Pearson record for April 12 was 25.8 C set in 2001. It will be the third day in the row the city has been temperatures into the 20s.

It will be even warmer on Thursday with a high near 27 C, approaching the April 13 record of 27.1 C that was set in 1977.

Taylor says it will mark “the peak of the heat” with “a touch of humidity.” The humidex will make the heat on Thursday feel closer to 30.

Things will cool down slightly for Friday with a daytime high near 22 C.

Temperatures will be more seasonal on the weekend with highs near 15 C on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday could also see periods of rain.

Taylor says cooler air returns on Monday some areas in higher elevations could see wet flurries early next week.
