3-year-old girl drowned in Ajax backyard pool: Durham police

A three-year-old girl is dead after drowning in a backyard pool in Ajax on Tuesday, police say.
Durham Regional Police officers responded to a drowning call at around 5:15 p.m. at a home in the Rossland Road West and Harwood Avenue area.
“A female child was removed from a neighbouring backyard pool without vital signs,” police said in a release.
The child was rushed to a local-area hospital where she was pronounced dead.
“At this time we are requesting privacy for the family,” police said. “Our thoughts are with the family and all emergency personnel.”
Durham Regional Police Traffic Services touched on the tragedy in a tweet Tuesday night, saying: “Our members, many of whom are father/mothers/sons and daughters, raced to this call to try and help. A tragic loss that impacts us all.”
