An international student is dead following an overnight high speed crash on Highway 404 in Toronto.
Ontario Provincial Police says the single-vehicle collision happened around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in the southbound lanes of the 404 south of Steeles Avenue.
Police say a Ford Mustang was travelling at high speeds when it lost control and struck the centre barrier before rolling over and ending up on its roof.
The 23-year-old driver, the only occupant in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. He is originally from China but was studying in the GTA, according to police.
Investigators believe a second vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed nearby prior to the crash. Both vehicles lost control but the second vehicle regained control and did not make contact the car involved in the crash.
Police say they would like to speak with the second driver to get more information about what led to the collision.
The southbound 404 was closed for several hours at Steeles for the investigation. The lanes reopened just after 8 a.m. Thursday morning.
