Hamilton police have charged a 34-year-old man with first-degree murder of his 62-year-old mother.

Police were called to a mid-rise apartment building on Herkimer Street near Highway 403 just after 5 p.m. on Monday for reports of a disturbance.

Officers found a woman without vital signs and she was rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police identified the victim as Jacquelyne (Jackie) Buckle. Police arrested her son, Daryl Buckle, for first-degree murder. He appeared in court Tuesday morning.

Investigators say they are not seeking additional suspects.

The cause of death is not yet known.

The family shared a statement, saying “Jackie was a retired 35-year employee with the City of Hamilton and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, co-worker and friend who will be greatly missed by everyone that loved her.”

A police presence continues in the area as of Tuesday.
