Edmonton police investigating missing person case as homicide

Edmonton police’s homicide unit is investigating the disappearance of a 41-year-old man who has been missing since May.

Investigators believe foul play may be involved in the fate of Barry Bedard.

He was last seen May 2, near 118 Avenue and 50 Street, and was reported missing on May 20.

Police say Bedard is Indigenous, 6’2″, with brown eyes and short brown hair, along with several tattoos.

His disappearance is considered out of character, but police wont say why the homicide unit is investigating.

“What may appear as a minor detail to a member of the pubic or one of Mr. Bedard’s friends, might actually help progress or even resolve an investigation for police,” emphasized Staff Sgt. Colin Leathem, of the EPS Homicide Section.

“And we certainly understand that contacting police can, at times, create anxiety for someone that may have information pertaining to a criminal matter. If that is the case, I would encourage anyone with information on Mr. Bedard’s disappearance to reach out to Crime Stoppers. Information can be submitted anonymously without sharing one’s identity,” explained Staff Sgt. Leathem.

If anyone has any information regarding Bedard, they are asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
