Bike-riding suspect sought after employee at east end apartment complex shot

Residents at an apartment building near Broadview and Danforth avenues tell CityNews the victim in an early morning shooting is an office manager at the complex.

Police responded to the apartment building at 33 Eastmount Avenue just before 8:30 a.m. on Monday and located a woman in her 50s with a non life-threatening gunshot wound.

A suspect riding a bicycle was seen fleeing the area.

CityNews has been at the scene of the shooting and a bullet hole can be seen in the window of the property management’s office on the ground floor.

Three residents of the building tell CityNews the victim works for the property management company Capreit, however, police would not confirm as they have yet to identify the victim.

“[She’s] been an angel that’s been sent to this building. She’s done wonderful changes … the energy, the environment, and fixing things,” Carol Bowler, a resident who lives in the building, tells CityNews.

“I am sickened to hear that has happened to her.”

Police say the suspect at-large is male with short black hair and wearing all black clothing riding a black bike.

Police say he was carrying a small black side bag and a large light coloured sack.

At this point the motive is unclear.

“It’s terrifying,” another resident said. “There’s nowhere you can go where you’re safe.”
