Maple Leafs sign goalie Martin Jones to one-year, $850K contract

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed goaltender Martin Jones to a one-year, $850,000 contract, the team announced Wednesday.

Jones posted a 27-13-3 record, 2.95 goals-against average and .887 save percentage in 48 games with the Seattle Kraken last season.

The 33-year-old from North Vancouver, B.C., has played 444 regular season games over 10 seasons with the Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, Philadelphia Flyers and Kraken. Jones captured the Stanley Cup with the Kings in 2014 and represented the Sharks at the All-Star Game in 2017.

He holds a career 225-163-35 record, 2.70 goals-against average and .905 save percentage.

Jones has represented Canada twice on the international stage earning silver at the world junior championship in 2010 and gold at the world championship in 2015.

Jones joins Ilya Samsonov, who was recently awarded a $3.5 million deal in arbitration, and Joseph Woll in the battle for the goaltending duties this upcoming season. The Maple Leafs recently placed veteran netminder Matt Murray on Long Term Injured Rerserve.
