A man in his 20s is dead and another is fighting for his life in hospital after an early morning crash in Mississauga.

Emergency crews were called to Derry Road between Mavis and McLaughlin roads around 5:30 a.m. for reports of a multi-vehicle collision.

Witnesses say a white car was travelling westbound on Derry when it crossed the centre median into the eastbound lanes. After veering into oncoming traffic the car struck the side of an SUV before crashing head-on into a black car.

The wrong way driver, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the black car was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

There is no word on the cause of the crash.

Derry is blocked in both directions between Mavis and McLaughlin for the investigation. Police are asking motorists to avoid the area.
