E-bike rider dies after being struck by flatbed truck in Yorkville

Toronto police say a man riding an electric bicycle died on Tuesday after he was struck by a flatbed truck near a construction site in Yorkville.

It happened at around 1:23 p.m. at Avenue Road and Elgin Avenue.

Police say the truck was driving southbound on Avenue when it attempted to enter a construction site on the east side of the street.

The truck briefly stopped while waiting to access the site. When it started to turn into the site the E-bike rider struck.

The driver remained on scene and is cooperating, police say.

The victim, aged 39, was pronounced dead at the scene.

There’s no word on possible charges at this point.
