Suspect charged with second-degree murder in death of 57-year-old Toronto man

Toronto police say a 65-year-old man is facing a murder charge in connection with the death of a 57-year-old man in the city’s east end.

Officers were called to a residence in the Eglinton Avenue East and Birchmount Road area just after 2:15 p.m. on May 16.

Police say two people got into an altercation, when the suspect allegedly assaulted the 57-year-old man with an object.

Paramedics transported the man, identified as Mohamed Alladin of Toronto, to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say he died of his injuries on May 19.

Police arrested the suspect at the scene on May 16.

Investigators initially changed Chandrika Rampat of Toronto with aggravated assault and assault but now say he is facing an upgraded charge of second-degree murder.

Police say the accused and Alladin knew each other.
