Man, 35, arrested in stabbing death during ‘altercation’ in Etobicoke

Toronto police have identified a man who was killed and arrested a second person who was injured following a stabbing that occurred during an “altercation” between a group of people in Etobicoke.

Emergency responders were called to Lake Shore Boulevard West and Islington Avenue just after 6 a.m. on Thursday after a passerby called 911.

Duty Insp. Dan Pravica said when officers arrived on the scene, they were “advised that an altercation occurred between several parties. It appears at this time at least two people were suffering from stab wounds.”

The male suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital by paramedics, where he later died.

Police believe a second male was also stabbed, but investigators said he fled the scene.

“We’re concerned for that individual as he has not made himself known to us. We do not believe he has attended a local hospital or sought medical help. We are hoping to locate this person,” Pravica said.

On Friday, police identified the victim as 36-year-old Jesse Christian Halvorsen of Toronto.

Police also announced that 35-year-old Shawn Downs-Abbott of Toronto was located and treated for non-life threatening injuries. He’s now facing a charge of second-degree murder.

Investigators say the two men are known to each other but it’s not yet known what led to the altercation.
