Family of 5, including 2 young children and baby, struck by vehicle in Etobicoke

Toronto Police say a number of pedestrians, including a baby and children, were seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in Etobicoke.

Investigators say a family of five was crossing Islington Avenue at the intersection of Orrell Avenue at around 6:11 p.m. when a 77-year-old driver in a Toyota Corolla made a left-hand turn from Finchely Road onto southbound Islington and struck the five in the intersection.

A 45-year-old man, a four-year-old girl, one-year-old girl and a one-month-old boy were all taken to hospital. The extent of their injuries was not known. A 39-year-old woman was also transported to hospital via emergency run with injuries that were said to be life-threatening.

Witnesses tell 680 NewsRadio that the vehicle allegedly turned left on a red light.

The investigation is ongoing and there’s no word yet on whether any charges are pending against the driver.
