1 person dead after 2 motorcycles collide in Thornhill

A 33-year-old man is dead following a serious collision involving two motorcycles on Saturday in Thornhill.

Ontario Provincial Police say two motorcycles collided on Bathurst Street near the on-ramp to the eastbound Highway 407 just after 2:00 p.m.

One of the motorcycle riders suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The second motorcyclist was treated for minor injuries in hospital.

Police say the two riders were friends and were out for a pleasure ride when the crash occurred.

Investigators are attempting to determine the reasons that led up to the crash and if any charges will be laid.

Earlier this year, Ontario Provincial Police reported an alarming spike in fatal motorcycle crashes. Officers are warning riders to drive with caution.
