2 people arrested in Queen Street West chase that injured an officer and a police horse

A Toronto police officer and police horse were injured after they were rammed by a stolen vehicle on Friday afternoon.

Officers were called to the Queen Street West and University Avenue area around 3:15 p.m. after receiving an Automated License Plate Recognition hit. Upon arrival, police spotted the truck and attempted to stop the driver.

He then allegedly rammed several police cruisers, striking one of them along with a police horse.

The stolen vehicle then mounted the sidewalk and struck the front window of a business.

One suspect was arrested at the scene and another was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

Police have charged 30-year-old Cedar Nicolas and 33-year-old Jonathan Chabot Desrosiers with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Desrosiers also faces additional charges, including injuring an animal, four counts of assaulting an officer with a weapon and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

Toronto Police say both individuals were out on bail at the time of the incident.

The officer who was injured was transported to a hospital in non-life-threatening condition. The police horse was transported to an emergency animal hospital and treated for minor injuries.
