Stretch of Bathurst reopens after gas leak at construction site

Bathurst Street has reopened following a gas leak at a construction site.

Emergency crews were called to 64 Bathurst St. near Wellington Street West just after 7:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Toronto police said construction workers were evacuated from the site. No injuries have been reported.

Fire officials said a gas line ruptured but it’s not yet known how it happened.

In an update, police said the gas leak has been brought under control by Enbridge.

Bathurst was closed between Front Street West and King Street West to vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians. In a post on X just before 11 a.m., police said the area has since reopened.

Drivers were already experiencing delays in the area after a garbage truck hit streetcar wires at King and Spadina Avenue earlier this week. The incident led to road closures on Spadina and King and impacted several TTC streetcar routes in the area. The TTC has said the repairs are expected to continue until the end of the week.
