Phone sex services are nothing new, but a group of parents are raising concerns after their children stumbled upon a particular line that they allege is aimed at luring young people to dial up and listen in.
“Hi, sexy. I’m a barely legal babe who wants to play with you,” reads the recorded message. “I’m not too shy to say I am a hot teen slut.”
Tracy Kaarto’s daughter listened to the recording after hearing about it from one of her friends.
“That’s disgusting. I’m not listening to any more of that,” the perturbed mom said after calling the line herself.
“I have her locked off from my computer at home. She’s only allowed on it when I’m home. Now I have to watch out for the phone?”
Her daughter Kourtnee, who is just 13, heard the salacious service with a group of friends.
“I heard it and then I gave it to (Kourtnee) and then she heard it and there was like six guys around us, and then it just go passed around,” one of her friends explained.
The number is 1-800-pre-teen and parents like Janet Loyst believe what it spells can be confusing to young people.
“I know some children that have thought this was a phone number for preteen tickets. I know that they have thought was a social club,” Loyst said.
The kids have known about the number for a year but were scared to tell anyone.
“These kids have held onto it that long because a lot of them knew how bad it was. So if it’s been out there that long then I can say it’s gone way past these kids,” Loyst adds.
Bell Canada says the 1-800 number is an American one and not much can be done about it.
But the parents want it shut down, and they’ve threatened to get police involved.
