Toronto police have released security footage of the suspect in a murder investigation fleeing the scene of the crime.
Shaka Reid, 36, was killed at Sherbourne and Dundas streets just after midnight on Aug. 19.
Police said Reid was with friends before he began walking along Dundas Street near Oskenonton Lane. A white vehicle then pulled up and several men all believed to be in their 20s got out.
“It appears that Mr. Reid engages one of the individuals in a brief conversation, at which time Mr. Reid is fatally shot,” said Det.-Sgt. Mike Carbone of Toronto police homicide.
Police wouldn’t comment on what the two men were talking about, but said the conversation didn’t escalate to the point where it was an argument.
Video footage has been released of the shooter and the other men returning to the vehicle, described as a newer model Ford Taurus, and fleeing the area.
Carbone said the same vehicle had been seen in the area about an hour before the murder.
Police said because the weather was nice that night, there were a lot of people outside at the time of the shooting.
“As you can see from the video, Dundas Street appears to be fairly busy with several vehicles travelling both in an east and west direction,” Carbone said. “I would like to appeal to anyone who was on Dundas Street during that time to call police.”
Police would also like to speak with friends of Reid’s.
“My plea here today is to reach out to anyone who knew Mr. Reid or had any contact with him, especially on the 19th,” Carbone said.
Reid is the city’s thirty-fourth homicide of the year.
