Three teen girls among five charged in extortion and robbery investigation

By News staff

Three 16-year-old girls are among five people charged in an extortion and robbery investigation.

Toronto police said two girls were staying with a 33-year-old family acquaintance who tried to kick them out after they overstayed their welcome and kept demanding money. When the family member refused to give them money, police said they attacked her.

The teens then allegedly got the help of three friends to force their host into a car and drive her to a number of financial institutions to get loans.

An employee at one of the institutions noticed something was wrong and called police.

The three 16-year-olds from Toronto, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, are facing several charges including robbery, forcible confinement and extortion. Two of the teens are also facing assault charges.

Alexandria Batchelor, 18, also from Toronto, and Gilbert Monney, 27, from Brampton are also facing robbery, forcible confinement and extortion charges.

The suspects appeared in court last Thursday.
