MADRID, Spain — English golfer Lee Slattery extended his lead at the Madrid Masters to two shots after firing a 3-under 69 in the third round on Saturday.

Slattery led by 1 overnight and produced a steady round of three birdies without dropping a shot to finish the third day on 14 under for the tournament, 2 ahead of Italian Lorenzo Gagli and Australian Brett Rumford.

Defending champion and No.1-ranked Luke Donald had a frustrating end to his round of 70 with three bogeys in the final five holes to lie 8 under going into the final day.

Donald bogeyed Nos. 16 and 18 — just as he did Friday — to stall his move up the leaderboard.

Italian Ryder Cup player Francesco Molinari is tied with Sweden’s Oscar Floren and Argentina’s Oscar Monasterio on 11 under.
