Man, 19, shot near Scarborough RT’s Lawrence East station

A 19-year-old man was shot in the stomach near Scarborough RT’s Lawrence East station Friday, and is in hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries, Toronto police say.

Const. Tony Vella told CityNews the victim and suspect had a brief confrontation before a shot was fired.

The man was found on the GO Transit train tracks south of the Lawrence East station, holding onto a fence and screaming that he had been shot, police said.

Police are looking for a white suspect who’s over six-feet tall and was wearing a black hat. No firearm has been recovered.

Officers are looking through security video, and speaking to witnesses.

“We need to find out who has done this and what motivated it,” said Vella.  “If you did see what occurred we want to hear from you. It’s vital.”

The TTC said the 86 Scarborough and 116 Morningside buses temporarily diverted for the police investigation at Eglinton and Markham but regular service has resumed.

The transit authority said the shooting on the GO Transit tracks near the Lawrence East station is not affecting service at this time.

However, GO Transit’s Stouffville line was temporarily halted. But the first train on that line wasn’t expected to leave Union station until 4:18 p.m.

It was scheduled to leave on time at a reduced speed, and minor delays were expected.
