Free Ride Wednesdays are back this July in Toronto

Some say there is no such thing as a free ride, but that is not the case in Toronto during the month of July.

Free Ride Wednesdays are back.

Mayor John Tory said thanks to the help from the CAA, you can once again take a whip out for free every Wednesday next month with Bike Share Toronto.

Over a 24 hour period, riders can take out a bike for up to 30 minutes at a time, return the bike to a station, then take out another bike for an additional 30 minute ride.

Tory said he’s recently used the bike share system, dug it, and thinks you will too.

“Do it, it’s simple to do. It is convenient, it is a fun way to get around the city, I found myself going from Point A to Point B — but then I did all kinds of exploring in between, which I could do because I was on a bike… and you can do it in a car, but it’s not the same,” Tory said.

“Free Ride Wednesdays have been a hit in past years,” Tory said, using last year as an example, “during Free Ride Wednesdays, which were in September because of the pandemic, we delivered nearly 75,000 trips over five Wednesdays.”

Tory said Bike Share Toronto has seen a 34 per cent increase in ridership since last year, with the program available in 20 of the City’s 25 wards.

More than 12.5 million trips have been taken on the Bike Share Toronto program since it was launched 10 years ago.

The highest ridership day was marked on June 5 of this year, when 27,345 people went out for a spin.

The City is also reminding you to follow the public health guidelines, and wash your hands before and after using the bikes.
