Paul McCartney Song Named Most Hated Christmas Tune

This article is more than 5 years old.
Which is why a tune by Paul McCartney has been named the worst Christmas song of all time for the second straight year.
Critics note “Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time” is abysmal for lots of reasons – the keyboards, the vocals and the repetitive nature of the tune itself, which gets played and played and played endlessly at this time of year, mostly because it was made by a former Beatle.
And that’s enough to have the 1979 song declared the worst Yule tune of all time by the website Retrocrush. Those sitting in judgment note, “Anyone who has ever had to suffer through this .. should at least get a fat check from Sir Paul as a Christmas gift.”
Oddly, The McCartney tune came in tied for first place in a similar survey CityNews conducted last year at this time. The co-winner? “Feliz Navidad” by Jose Feliciano.
What’s in second place in the new survey? A song that has many cringing even more than the McCartney tune called “Christmas Shoes”. This seasonal classic – or not so classic – by NewSong tells the story of a dying mother and a small boy trying to buy shoes for her during the holiday season.
It actually spawned a movie and is expected to set clenched teeth on edge for Christmases to come.
For those of you who agree with the list, take heart – there’s only a week left before all those songs are put aside for another year.
