Five Teens Charged In Murder Of Omar Wellington Plead Guilty

Five teens have pleaded guilty mid-trial after being charged with the savage murder of 17-year-old Omar Wellington.

Wellington was beaten, tortured, and stabbed more than 30 times in the summer of 2006.

The teenaged ring-leader, who can only be identified as J.J., will face a sentence for first degree murder, while his four accomplices are guilty of aggravated assault.

Wellington was beaten and killed four years ago in Flemingdon Park because he failed to bring back a gun he was told to buy.

Omar Wellington’s mother expressed relief that the young men pleaded guilty, but says the Youth Criminal Justice Act is too lenient.

Despite the culture of fear and silence encountered by homicide detectives in Flemingdon Park, they were able find a couple of witnesses willing to speak out, leading to the arrests.

The judge will likely announce sentences on Thursday with the ringleader expected to serve three-and-a-half years behind bars.
