Needles Found In Packaged Sausage

Toronto Police have issued a public safety alert after a food tampering scare.

At least five separate customers have found needles inside packages of Piller’s Polish Sausage since last month.

On Monday, officers revealed two packages were purchased at the No Frills store at 372 Pacific Avenue and one was bought at 2187 Bloor Street West.

Less than a day later, two more customers came forward about similar incidents – both stemming from purchases made last Thursday.

One had found a needle in a Pillers Kielbasa package purchased at No Frills at 900 Dufferin Street. The other tampered package was a Piller’s Turkey Kielbasa from the Price Chopper at 2440 Dundas Street West.

The public is requested to check the packaging of all food products thoroughly for signs of tampering.

If you have reason to suspect that a meat product has been tampered with, you are requested to retain the product, packaging and any receipt. You are also requested to contact your local police or the Canadian Food Inspection Agency at 416-665-5049.

Members of the public with concerns about food safety may contact the Canadian Food Inspection Agency at 1-800-442-2342.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-1100, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), online at www.222tips.com, or text TOR and your message to CRIMES (274637).
