MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) – A scary incident for police in Ridge Meadows Wednesday night, as they say a 48-year-old man shot paintballs in their general vicinity.
Mounties were investigating complaints the man had earlier entered a house on 124th Avenue, and had threatened the homeowner. Once they tracked the suspect to his house, officers were met with the paintballs.
Staff Sergeant Hector Lee says the police took cover and addressed the situation. “They reacted appropriately, they did an excellent job and didn’t overreact. They had the presence of mind to know what the difference is between gunfire and paintball fire, I guess.”
Lee says the man eventually went outside and it was then police discovered the shots were fired at windows inside the house.
The suspect was safely taken into custody. He’s now facing a variety of recommended charges for weapons offences, as well as break and enter, and making threats.
