Five police officers arrested in connection with the beating death of a Toronto man in Grenada made a brief court appearance in St. George’s, Tuesday, before the case was moved to a different jurisdiction.
The preliminary inquiry will be heard January 6 in St. David’s, the same area where the alleged incident took place. The officers are being remanded in custody until that date, because the court in St. George’s did not have the authority to grant bail.
Police expect that any bail motions will be brought on the same date.
The officers are charged with manslaughter after Oscar Bartholomew, 39, was allegedly beaten into a coma. His relatives say the beating occurred after he hugged a plainclothes policewoman he had mistaken for a friend.
