Parents meet at Oakdale Park M.S. to discuss student safety

TORONTO, Ont. – Concerned parents gathered in a closed door meeting at Oakdale Park middle school, Wednesday night, after a gun was found in a student’s backpack on Friday.

The parents met to discuss what should be done about the incident and how to prevent something like this from happening again.

School officials said security cameras will be installed in the school in September.

One parent spoke to CityNews before the meeting began and said parents have been working on the issue of children’s safety for months.

“Security has to be beefed up, definitely. I’ve called the district school board about bringing in cameras, student council has written a couple of letters to the principal to beef (security) up and to bring in the cameras,” she explained.

Parents received a letter from the school’s principal on Monday regarding incident however the letter contained no mention that a gun had been involved.

This is the second incident involving a gun at the school in the last year.
