Ann Romney gives rousing speech as Mitt Romney nominated at convention

The Republicans have their man, as Mitt Romney has been formally nominated as the Republican presidential candidate.

It was his wife Ann who took the spotlight Tuesday, however, giving a rousing speech at the Republican Party National Convention in Tampa.

Ann Romney, who has been married to Mitt for 40 years, painted her husband as a successful man who made it based on hard work and dedication.

“As his partner in this amazing journey, I can tell you Mitt Romney was not handed success, he built it,” Ann said.

Ann Romney also appealed to the female vote that has, so far, favoured Barack Obama.

“It’s the moms of this nation, single, married, widowed who really hold this country together,” Ann said. “I love you women.”

She also spoke about the health trials she has faced and how her marriage with Mitt has remained strong.

“I read somewhere that Mitt and I had a storybook marriage,” Ann said. “Well let me tell you something, in the storybooks I read there never were long, rainy winter afternoons in a house with five boys screaming at once.”

“Those storybooks never seemed have to chapters called M.S. or breast cancer,” she added. “Not at all, what Mitt Romney and I have is a real marriage.”

Romney will accept the nomination with a speech Thursday night, with running mate Paul Ryan set to take the stage Wednesday.
