Every year following the Juno Awards, many Canadians rush to stores and online outlets to purchase recordings from their favourite Canadian artists. This year was no different, with album sales and digital downloads up over 440 percent.
Data from Nielsen SoundScan showed the largest gains were sales for Blue Rodeo and Great Lake Swimmers, with sales increases from 31 percent in the album category, to 444 percent for single tracks.
The phenomenon has been dubbed “The Juno Effect”.
Other artists who have seen a spike in album sales are Drake, up 58 percent, K’naan, up 50 percent, Michael Bublé, up 49 percent, and Metric, up 41 percent.
Some of those who have seen digital sales soar are Johnny Reid’s “Dance with Me”, up 177 percent, and K’naan’s chart topper “Wavin’ Flag”, up 61 percent.
The Juno Awards took place on Sunday April 18 in St. John’s, Newfoundland. 2.01 million viewers tuned into CTV networks to watch the show.
